This document details the minimum requirements for conducting tripping operations on COMPANY locations.

A BEFORE TRIPPING

1. Tripping shall only commence with the approval of the on-site COMPANY Well Operations
Supervisor and the Contractor’s Toolpusher.
2. The COMPANY Well Operations Supervisor shall establish that the well is stable prior to
commencing a trip – (flow check, etc)
3. The COMPANY Well Operations Supervisor shall ensure that the minimum overpressure of
200psi is applied on the formation by the drilling/completion fluid prior to the start of tripping.

B GOOD TRIPPING PRACTICE

1. The rig trip tank shall be used during every trip and the Driller/AD will keep an accurate trip schedule.
2. Mud Loggers shall also maintain an accurate trip schedule.
3. If there is any deviation from the planned schedule, the Mud Loggers must inform the Driller
immediately.
4. All completed trip sheets will be kept on file.
5. The COMPANY Well Operations Supervisor or COMPANY Night Supervisor (if applicable)
shall be on the drill-floor when pulling for the first time out of the hole, then after, as a minimum, the
first ten stands and must also be present when tripping through known problem sections.
6. The COMPANY Well Operations Supervisor or COMPANY Night Supervisor (if applicable)
will also ensure that the hole is taking the correct fill-up volumes and that drags are as expected.
7. If the well is not taking the correct amount of fluid, then the bit will be run back to bottom and the
well circulated.
8. Any specific procedures for flow checks or trips, such as “long connection tests” or pumping out of
hole shall be detailed in the Well Programme.
9. The COMPANY Well Operations Supervisor shall ensure that the full-opening safety valve
(complete with key), inside blowout preventer (IBOP) and all necessary crossovers are available on
the drill-floor when drilling and tripping and are pressure tested and in good operating condition.
10. For drilling shallow gas sections or other sections where the overbalance is low, then specific
procedures will be used to trip out the hole. These will be provided in the Well Programme. Refer to
Shallow Gas - Standards.
11. In HP/HT conditions a specific tripping method will be agreed with the Drilling Contractor and
detailed in the Joint Drilling Manual.

C FLOW CHECK

1. The well will be flow checked:
a. Prior to commencing a trip out of hole
b. After ten stands have been pulled
c. With the bit at the casing shoe
d. Before pulling drill collars through the BOP
e. At any other time specified in the Well Programme
f. At any time when deemed necessary by the Driller.
