Drilling Rig on Pre-Installed Piles and Modules is one of the drilling rig design concepts for shallow water environments.
1. Water depth range: 0 – 3 m.
2. Low environment impact
3. Particularly adapted to shallow water when ice is land fast. Platform can be erected in the winter season using Arctic equipment. For deeper water, piles will need to be designed to withstand floating ice sheets.
4. Suitable for exploration and development.
5. Concept used by Anadarko in Alaska (attachment 3). 5 x 15 m modules can be fabricated locally. Potentially low lead time. More engineering required to determine maximum water depth.
Modules can be set with a clearance above water sufficient to exclude the need for any additional ice management structures, e.g. deflectors and rubble makers.
6. Any size rig could be fitted.
