This article describes an example of a directional drilling plan. The hole will be kicked-off below the 26" conductor shoe. The hole will be directionally drilled to the 18 5/8" casing setting depth with the 12 1/4" assembly. Thereafter the hole will be opened up with a 22" hole opener assembly or under reamed to 24".
12 1/4" Kick-Off BHA
12 1/4" Bit
9 5/8" PowerPack motor w/ 12 1/8" stabiliser and 1.0 degree bend
8" Float sub
12" Watermelon stab
8" CDR
12" ILS
8" MWD
8" CDN (optional)
8" UBHO
8" NMDC's
8" DC's
8" Jar
8 "DC's
Make-up Procedure
1) The making up of the BHA shall be supervised by the Directional Drilling Supervisor, assisted by the MWD engineer.
2) Perform surface tests of the mud motor and MWD.
3) Perform a shallow test of the MWD when running HWDP.
4) Set deflection angle on motor housing to 1.0 degree.
5) Measure the offset between bent housing and MWD scribe line, log and record same on the surface computer.
6) Align key sleeve on orienting sub on bent housing.
7) Ensure that all safety procedures for handling of radioactive sources are followed.
Directional Drilling
1) Orient and rotary drill as required to maintain the directional drilling plan for the individual well.
2) Make every effort to keep the dog-leg severity less than 4 degrees/ 30m in the initial phase of the kick-off. Perform regular MWD check.
3) Drill to casing setting depth at +\- 1000 mTVD, circulate well clean and POOH.
22" Hole Opening BHA
A typical 22" hole opening assembly for the opening up of the 12 1/4" pilot hole is given below:
9 1/2" Bullnose w/jets
9 1/2" SDC
22" Hole opener
9" FLS MWD
9 1/2" NMDC's
9 1/2" DC's
X/O
8" DC's
8" Jar
8" DC's
X/O
5" HWDP's
5" DP's
24" Under Reaming Assembly
If under reaming is required the following assembly can be used. If the wholr section shall be under reamed the running of this assembly will replace completely the running of the 22" hole opening assembly.
9 1/22 Bullnose w/jets
9 1/2" SDC
24" Under reamer
9" FLS MWD
9 1/2"NMDC's
9 1/2" DC's
X/O
8" DC's
8" Jar
8" DC's
