Drilling Supervisor responsibilities:

  • verifying that the correct size, weight, grade and connections as per the Drilling Programme have been delivered
  • independently measuring the casing and ensuring that no differences exist in the casing tally as measured by the Drilling Contractor
  • counting the total number of joints and comparing this number with the casing tally, shipping manifest and number of joints remaining on site
  • keeping a record of the total joints on locations and joints on the rack prepared for running
  • numbering the casing joints in running order
  • preparing the Casing Running Programme
  • Checking stock of cement and additives and verifying in advance that stocks are available for the casing job
  • ensuring that all running tools are in good, safe condition and are of the correct rating for the job
  • Make-up torque of casing/liner
  • Baker-lok shoe as per program
  • Running speed of casing /liner
  • Filling casing as it is RIH
  • Drag in open hole

Drilling Contractor responsibilities:

  • checking the side door elevators for uneven wear on the bearing surface and correct operation of the door latch, (single joint elevators shall be checked by trial latching before the casing is run. Grinding of elevators is dangerous and forbidden.)
  • checking spider and elevator slips for size, condition and ability to operate evenly
  • spider elevators and slips to have rating of casing weight in mud
  • verifying load capability of drilling line.
  • removing casing protectors, cleaning and checking threads, (pin and box ends shall be lubricated with the required lubricant and the thread protectors replaced hand tight)
  • drifting the casing with a proper API drift
  • measuring and numbering the casing during racking, (each layer shall be measured prior to accepting additional layers of casing)
  • performing a safety check prior to use of stabbing board. This shall be performed with a checklist developed for each individual installation. The checklist shall be signed by the Drilling Supervisor
  • installing bow/rigid centralizers
  • rigging up circulating head, pressure testing cement lines.

Casing Running Contractor responsibilities:

  • physically running the casing
  • applying the correct make-up torque to the connections, (the make-up torque shall be approved by the Drilling Supervisor prior to casing running)
  • verification and rig up of handling equipment including the JAM unit
  • applying casing dope and baker-lok.
