Casing Make-Up Torque

593 casing mu torque

Due to potential frequent changes to casing specification, casing make-up torque and drift dimensions shall be as per the manufacturer's recommendations.

Buttress Thread Casing Connections

9.5/8 - 13.3/8 OD Casing (BTC)

Make-up torque valves of buttress thread casing connections sizes 9.5/8in to 13.3/8in OD shall be determined by carefully noting the torque required to make up each of several connections to the base of the triangle. Provided the position falls within
- 0.2in and + 0.375in of the base, the power tight make-up is acceptable. The average torque value established shall be used to make up the balance of the pipe of that particular weight and grade in the string.

Safety Valves

The purpose of the Safety valves is to protect people, environment and property from uncontrolled production.

  • SSV: Surface Safety Valves: an automatic fail-safe closed valve fitted at the wellhead.
  • SSSV: Subsurface Safety Valve: a valve installed in the tubing down the well to prevent uncontrolled flow in case of an emergency through the tubing when actuated. These valves can be installed by wireline or as an integral part of the tubing. Subsurface Valves are usually divided into the following categories.

Wireline Logging Fishing - Cut and Thread Procedure

Prior to any fishing operations ensure that all personnel involved are aware of their duties by means of a pre-operation safety meeting.

Dressing the Tools

Take a new grapple, grapple control and guide and assemble the overshot. Ensure that the correct type and size of grapple is used.

Preparing the Cable

The following procedures should be adhered to when preparing the cable for the cut and thread method:

1. Pull the cable to 2000 lbs above normal tension to remove any slack.

Oil Companies

A

Abraxas Petroleum Corp.

Abraxas Petroleum Corporation is an independent natural gas and crude oil exploitation and production company based in San Antonio, Texas. Robert L.G. Watson, the company's President and CEO, founded Abraxas in 1977 and took the company public in 1991. Today, the company concentrates on developing its existing asset base while acquiring leases that fit strategically within its current portfolio. Abraxas targets conventional reservoirs, as well as emerging resource plays, in its primary operating areas in the Rocky Mountain, Mid-Continent and Permian Basin / Texas Gulf Coast Basin.

Abu Dhabi National Oli Co. (ADNOC)

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) was established in 1971, to operate in all areas of the oil and gas industry and since then has steadily broadened its activity establishing companies and subsidiaries and creating an integrated oil and gas industry in Abu Dhabi. Today, the company manages and oversees oil production of more than 2.7 million barrels a day which ranks it among the top ten oil and gas companies in the world.

HSE Plan (Example)

Company Well Operations in COUNTRY will be conducted in accordance with the Company HSE Policy and with the intent of meeting the best international standards for HSE. Our goal is that no harm comes to any person, and that damage to the environment is minimised, during any of the activities while constructing, drilling and testing the WELLSITE well.

1       Introduction

1.1      HSE Goals

Company Well Operations in COUNTRY will be conducted in accordance with the Company HSE Policy and with the intent of meeting the best international standards for HSE. Our goal is that no harm comes to any person, and that damage to the environment is minimised, during any of the activities while constructing, drilling and testing the WELLSITE well.

There is a duty on all Company and Contractor personnel to ensure that this HSE Plan is implemented effectively. There must be the intention, in the way that we go about the work at site, to prevent harm and to keep the risks associated with the work As Low as Reasonably Practicable (ALARP).

Calculation of Maximum Allowable Annular Surface Pressure (MAASP)

473 MAASPThe Maximum Allowable Annular Surface Pressure (MAASP) equals the formation breakdown pressure at the point under consideration minus the hydrostatic head of the mud/or influx in the casing.  During well control operations the critical point to consider is the casing shoe.

MAASP = Formation BreakDown Pressure - Head of mud in use

or

MAASP = (E.M.W - MWMUD) x 0.052 x Shoe Depth (TVD)

Non-conventional well control methods

When the standard well control method (drillers' or weight and wait) are not suitable, alternative methods can be considered: Stripping, bullheading, volumetric, off-botton, no circulation, etc

1. Stripping

This procedure is recommended when the drill string is partially or completely out of the hole. The principle of this technique is to maintain the BHP constant with the well closed and while running drill pipe. This will be achieved by using combined stripping and volumetric method (control of the gas migration while pipe is stripped in the hole).

This technique should be used first as the well can be most effectively killed with the bit on bottom. It is to be noted that the option to run in the hole with the well open must never be attempted even if the bit is closed to bottom.
